The External Quest
When a person does not understand psycanics, BEing, and the Causal
Sequence, when s/he is trapped in the Fatal Paradigm; s/he will embark on the
External Quest for happiness. S/He will seek happiness in externals: relationships,
position, fame, success, power, wealth, etc. All THINKing and DOing and
HAVEing always have as their purpose to control BE-FEEL = experience =
happiness.
All human effort has as its ultimate goal personal happiness.
The true Quest, the true challenge of life, is the Internal Quest to work on
yourself and find your love and happiness within. The purpose of life is to move
from Who You Are now to Who You Want to Be. When you are BEing Wise,
Powerful, Excellent, and Loving, all the rest of the Causal Sequence, your actions,
relationships and your results, will flow from that.
The efforts of a person in the External Quest to fulfill the Existential
Imperative (be happy) have three principal directions:
- Try to stop all the negative events that seem to be causing one’s UPS.
(Attack or manipulate externals to control the world to stop BAD things.)
- Use substances or activities (chemicals, food, shopping, television, alcohol,
gambling, etc.) to suppress negative experience and, where possible to
cause Self positive feelings.
- Try to accumulate and hoard those things that appear to cause happiness:
money, relationships, material things, power, fame, etc. This, as we saw
before, only causes MoPs: fleeting Moments of (emotional) Pleasure.
Such efforts do sometimes momentarily succeed in stopping negative events to
stop UPS; and in triggering MoPs. Thus, changing the externals seems to confirm
work-ableness of the External Quest. This is unfortunate, because it contributes
to the illusion that external things control our experience.
However, "all roads lead to Rome," and even the External Quest will eventually
take you home. But it does so by using pain to eventually force you to go
within to seek the answers, anyway. Thus, it is the long and painful way around and
back to the ONE. Thus, although no one is ever lost and we all find our way back
HOME eventually, we call the External Quest the "impossible dream."
The faster you get yourself out of the External Quest, and into the Internal
Quest, the faster you will stop suffering, begin to have your life work naturally and
effortlessly, and begin to make serious progress on the road HOME.
